Ten steps to Server Maintenance

Without a perfectly functioning sever it is almost impossible for anyone to host a website effectively. If your server is having problem, then your website is definitely going to be facing similar issues.

Just like any machine or computer device, a server needs constant and routine maintenance and checkups. This is in anticipation of any form problem that can arise in the future.

A server that is constantly and properly maintain will last longer than one which is not. So if you have the long life of your server in mind and you wish to save money on consistent server maintain, then you need to start taking steps to maintain your server network.

In this article we are going to be discussing 10 steps to main your server very well and keep them up to shape.

1. Make sure no error is found in your backup logs.

The importance of backing up your files consistently cannot be under stated in anyways. So always make sure you check if you back up function is still in place on your sever.

2. Make sure your operating system is up to date.

Updates are made for a reason, so you not being up to date with your system software means you are calling for trouble. Most of the time updates are made to respond adequately to a particular problem which in most case is usually a bug or virus. So update your operating systems regularly to avoid getting hacked or affected.

3. Always be up to date with your control panel.

New features are always being introduced on a daily basis. The aim of every new feature is to make operation much easier and better. So it is important for you to always update your servers systems control panel in other to enjoy new features.

4. Always check web programs update.

Web application like wordpress, open cart etc are always going through updating processes. The aim of this is to provide a more attack immune application for the public to make use of. So always do all you can to block all form of vulnerability.

5. Check your server space consumption and CPU usability.

If you are nearing the cap being set for your particular server type, then you need to be informed before you go over board and start to make your system hang or worse have it crash in the middle of operations.

6. Always check your logs for any hardware failure error.

Before a total breakdown takes place, there is usually some form of warning bell in place. So it is very important you pay close attention to your log details.

7. Always change your passwords.
Changing your passwords on a regular basis is highly recommend, this is important most especially if a lot of people have access to your server.

8. Proper cleaning of your server and it surrounding.

Over time dusts and cobwebs tends to settle over any item place in a single spot. This principle also applies to a server system also. So always make sure to make your server dust and debris free to avoid rusting.

9. Check for worn out cables.

Checking for cables that has worn out or needs replacement is not only going to help keep your server from malfunctioning, it will also protect you against electric shocks.

10. Always read your server user manual.

Every set of machinery comes with its own user manual, so it is important for your to go through you server user manual in case of any trouble shooting or conditions alien to you.
